Collection Agencies and Your Credit Report

By Ben Casey

Working With Collection Agencies

A collection, also known as a charge-off, is an old debt the original creditor has given up trying to collect. At the point your debt becomes a charge-off, it is sold to a third party collection agency. Collection agencies are hired because they are experts at getting you to pay.

How Damaging Will a Collection Be to My Credit Score?

Once a debt becomes a "charge-off," your credit score will suffer even more. The charge-off will cause the credit entry to change from bad to worse. The reporting of collections on your credit report can take different forms, such as unpaid collection, collection - paid or settled for less, or paid collection.

Even if a collection is paid, lenders are aware that you once defaulted. They look for this type of activity as a way of determining your credit history and the possibility that it may happen yet again.

Can Collections Be Removed?

The short answer is YES! Collections do not have to stay on your credit report for the next 7 years. Quite the opposite is true.

Unless you attempt to remove a collection, the credit bureau or creditor will determine how long the collection will stay on your credit report. Therefore, it is up to you to convince these businesses to report accurate information. In essence, you are in a position to clean up and rebuild your own credit.

The Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) gives you the right to dispute negative information. You will need to obtain a copy of your credit report to determine which collection agencies are on your report. Each bureau has a separate file about you so don't expect them to be identical.

Ultimately, you will need to dispute every negative entry on your credit report. Often, following this procedure will result in the removal of several negative entries with no additional follow-up.

If a Dispute Does Not Work, What Next?

If your dispute is unsuccessful, you may consider additional methods. At this point, an experienced and knowledgeable attorney may be helpful. - 29970

Frequently Asked Questions About Court Summonses For Credit Card Debt

By Matthew Highlander

How Do I Respond to a Court Summons for Credit Card Debt?

First the good news is your answer only needs to be 2-3 pages long. It should contain your answer (probably a denial) to the specific charges in the complaint and state all of your possible defenses.

The answer needs to be worded and formatted in compliance with the local court?s rules of civil procedure. The rules will dictate that you send your answer to the court and the plaintiff probably within 20 days of your receipt of the summons to avoid a default under those rules. According to the Credit Card Debt Survival Guide, it is important to send the reply certified return receipt requested to prove compliance.

Do I Have Any Good Defenses, if I Owe the Debt?

Good defenses make the plaintiff document the alleged amount they say is owed, a signed contract and that they own the debt. One could also cover the fact that the summons for the debt was issued beyond your state?s statute of limitations for debt collection, if that is the case.

Remember you do not have to legally admit to owing the debt. It is up to the plaintiff to prove that the debt is yours.

I Have Talked to Local Attorneys. They Want Too Much Money to Take My Case. Where Do I Turn?

A local attorney does not know how much time your case will take him. So, he asks for a large retainer to handle the complete matter.

However, answering a summons is a basic legal task for any attorney. There are many local lawyers who can review your answer in an hour, if you ask them to do only that, and not represent you. Depending on your income, you could also approach the local legal aid society.

Remember, debt collection attorneys do want to litigate with a consumer who actually responds to their summons. They want the easy money in debtors who default.

Forex Account: The Keys To Becoming A Success At It

By Hayden Quinn

The Foreign Exchange Market can be very profitable given the right tools and grasping some of the basic concepts in what knowledge is required to make sound decisions. Before you know it, you will be ready to leap right in and start participating and evaluating the market trends. The more you study these trends the more profitable you will become with your ventures.

One of the most important things we want to remember is to lessen our risks as much as possible. Since there are no 100% guarantees, the more we decrease our risks, the more likely we will make good financial decisions when it comes to the international markets.

We don?t make decisions based on hearsay but rather by factual data. Given the statistics and data for each market will put us a step ahead of the rest. Even though there are no guarantees, you will feel more confident and more assured that you are making the right choices when selecting what markets to get involved in. It will take the ?guesswork? out of you decision and will lessen the risks of your final delivery.

We could compare Forex trading with gambling as much as we could compare it to real estate. When you purchase a piece of real estate, you think you are making a sound decision based on location and the appreciation over a given time period. As sound as we think our decision might have been, there is no guarantee that the market might take a turn for the worse as it has in the past.

Markets are always moving up or down. The more data we have to analyze the better our chances in determining what the markets are going to do next. A particular stock?s data that only showed weekly trends would be a higher risk than a stock whose data showed yearly trends.

Keep in mind we won?t always make the right decisions when choosing a certain stock, bond, etc. but the more knowledgeable we become, the more likely we will continue to make smart choices as time progresses. This in turn will follow with increased financial rewards.

Some will charge a fee for this information and some financial institutions will provide this data for free. These companies monitor the markets on an hourly, weekly, monthly and annual basis. It is important for these companies to provide as accurate information as possible, because the more accurate the information, the higher the profit margin for the company.

What is a ?Chartists?? These are people who create line and bar graphs for all clients. These graphs are also called ?candlestick? graphs. The same graphs are available whether you are a new client or a VIP client. It is much simpler to analyze a graph over looking at a bunch of numbers. This helps the client in determining the market trends of a particular stock, bond, index, etc over a given period.

These ?candlestick? graphs and charts are available through your broker or financial consultant. If not, there is software available that will create these graphs for you just by inserting some numbers that your broker will provide you with. These numbers are also available from each company that participates in the Foreign Exchange Market. - 29970

Van Insurance - How to Get Under 25 Van Insurance!

By Rob Mcleary

Van insurance under 25 can be very expensive, as most insurers categorise the under 25 age group as high risk. It can make it harder to get a good deal on all types of insurance, but not impossible to get a great rate! There are many reason for van insurance under 25 is a higher rate, the insurance companies find that there are additional risks when you are under 25 years old. It is always beat to look around a bit and do some research to find out the different quote rates that are available to your age group. Some of the insurance companies will not insure a driver under the age of 25 and others who charge phenomenal rates!

One of the main reasons why van insurance under 25 costs more is because there are more accidents with young drivers at the wheel as, unfortunately, they tend to speed and some are just reckless but they are also considered less experienced than most older, mature people who drive. It is perceived that a young person will not have the same control over his vehicle, like a driver who has years of experience. Whatever the cost however, it is a legal requirement to have insurance. The good thing is that if you are a careful driver (and a lot of young people are) then your premium will fall year on year as you gain credibility in the eyes of your insurers.

It is really important that you make the proper choice in which type of van you choose to when you are young and could have a massive implication on the premium for your van insurance.

When you decide on a van and is a much wiser choice than a sports car but not considered as top class with alloys and a sports kit then you should find out that your insurance cost will be much cheaper. You might have chosen a van for business proposes and if this is the case you must remember in making sure you reveal this to your insurance provider to insure you that you are properly covered. If you fail to do so it could result that the insurance company you are covered with will not pay out if you need to make a claim. In general older vans will carry a higher insurance rate than newer models so it's worth while remembering.

It is down to the security of the vehicle, and new vehicles tend to have more frequently alarms and immobilisers. More young people usually start of with older vans because they tend to afford the rates than a newer vehicle and worth it. Getting a vehicle as little as you can afford without having to give up everything which gives you piece of mind. It will mean that you pay less for insurance and you will have less to pay out for repairs and maintained. if you change your car in any way it is really important to declare this to your provider.

When you are looking for van insurance quotes, do an online search and you can get access to many insurance companies' quotations. It would take forever and completely blow your free mobile allowance if you were to 'phone around for quotes. You can get all the information online and compare prices and benefits before you make a decision on which policy best suits your needs. It's also worth talking to drivers your own age to find out who they have their insurance with. - 29970

Foreign Exchange Market

By AHmad Hassam

The foreign exchange market most often called the forex market is the most traded financial market in the world. Average daily currency trading volumes exceed $2 trillion per day. That is a mind boggling number isnt it. To give you an idea it is 10-15 times the size of the daily trading volume on all the world stock markets combined.

While commercial and financial transactions in the currency markets represent huge nominal sums, they still pale in comparison to amounts based on speculation. By far the vast majority of the currency trading volume is based on speculation.

What is speculation? Speculation is when you invest with the sole purpose of making a capital gain from the market movement in the near future. Almost something like 90% of the volume in currency trading is speculative in nature. Traders buying and selling currencies for short term gains based on minute to minute, hour to hour and day to day fluctuations. It is the volatility in the forex market that makes it so attractive as compared to other markets.

There are only a few currencies that take the bulk of foreign exchange transactions. Unlike stocks, forex trading involves trading two currencies simultaneously in pairs. The major currency pairs are EUR/USD, GBP/USD, JPY/USD and CHF/USD. Activity in the forex market frequently functions on regional currency blocs basis where bulk of the trading takes place between the USD bloc, JPY bloc and the EUR bloc representing the three largest economic regions. The bulk of the spot currency trading almost like 75% takes place in the so called major currencies which represent the worlds largest and most developed economies.

A highly liquid market like the forex can see large trading volumes transacted with relatively minor price changes. Liquidity represents how much faster or easier it is to buy or sell an asset. Forex markets are highly liquid. In other words, liquidity is the level of buying or selling volume available at any given moment for a particular asset or security.

Forex markets are the most liquid financial markets with a very high volume of transactions. At any given moment, dozens of global financial centers are open such as Sydney, Hong Kong, Tokyo, New York or London and currency trading desks in those financial centers are active in the market. The forex market is open and active 24 hours a day from the start of the business hours on Monday morning in the Asia-Pacific time zone straight through to the Friday close of business hours in New York.

Trading starts at the New York Stock Exchange at 9:30 AM EST and continues in the evening till 4:00 PM EST. However, in the forex market, there is no official starting time for trading day or week. But for all practical purposes the market kicks off when Wellington, New Zealand, the first financial center opens on Monday morning local time. It roughly corresponds to Sunday afternoon in US, Sunday evening in EU and early Monday morning in Asia.

Forex markets are unlike the stock markets or for that matter any other market. Unlike other financial markets, you can see around the clock action in the forex markets except on weekends. Forex markets are open 24/5. Sunday open represents the resumption of trading after the Friday close of trading in North America. This is the first chance for the forex market to react to news that may have happened during the weekend. Prices may have closed New York trading at one level. However, they may start trading at another level altogether at the Sunday open. - 29970

Euro Currency Profile (Part I)

By Ahmad Hassam

The European Union consists of 15 member countries that include Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom.

Only 12 common currency countries out of these above 15 countries constitute the European Monetary Union (EMU). These 12 countries share a single monetary policy dictated by the European Central Bank (ECB). All these above countries share the common currency Euro except Denmark, Sweden and United Kingdom.

The EMU is the worlds second largest economic powerhouse after the United States. EMU has a highly developed and efficient fixed income, equity and the futures market. This makes EMU the second most attractive investment market for domestic and international investors.

In the past, the EMU had difficulty in attracting foreign direct investment or large capital inflows. The primary reason was the United States. Historically US assets have had solid returns. As a result, United States absorbs something like 70% of the total foreign savings.

However, with the EMU beginning to incorporate even more members in Eastern Europe, Euros importance is expected to increase. Induction of new members will further increase the size of EMU. The capital flows to Europe is expected to increase as well.

EMU is in fact a trade driven and a capital flow driven economy. Trade is very important to the national economies within EMU. Demand for Euro is expected to continue rising with foreign central banks expected to diversify their Euro reserve holdings even further away from US Dollar. In fact Euro provides a hedge against US Dollar reserves. If the EUR/USD pair goes up, it means US Dollar is losing value and if it goes down, it means US Dollar is gaining strength.

Unlike United States, EMU does not have large trade deficit or surplus. EU exports comprise almost 20% of the world trade. While EU accounts for only 17% of the world imports! Because of the size of the EMUs trade with the rest of the world, it has significant power in the international trade arena.

The formation of EU allows individual member countries to group as one entity and negotiates on an equal playing field with the United States. United States is the largest trading partner of EU. International clout is one of the primary reasons in the formation of EU.

Leading import sources for EU are United States, Japan, China, Switzerland and Russia. Leading export markets for EU are the United States, Switzerland, Japan, Poland and China.

Large numbers of EU based companies concentrate their research, design, innovation and marketing part of the activity in EU while outsourcing most of their manufacturing to Asia. EU is primarily a service oriented economy. Services account for more than 70% of the EU economy while manufacturing, mining and utilities account for around 20% of the EU economy.

It is important for most of the countries to hold large amounts of reserve currencies to reduce exchange rate risk and transaction costs. Most international trade transactions involve the British Pound, the Japanese Yen and the US Dollar. - 29970

Tips For Purchasing A Bank Owned Home

By Arthur Butler

Properties that are owned by the bank are also referred to as REO, or real estate owned. This is the terminology banks usually use when talking about bank owned property, so if you are approaching a bank to ask about their real estate holdings, it is best to ask to talk to their REO department. Fortunately, you probably won't have to talk to the bank to find out which foreclosure houses they have for sale.

The easiest way to find bank owned foreclosed homes is to contact a real estate agent. Most banks list their properties with an agent just like anyone else who has property to sell. This makes it easy to locate most REO properties. Just search the MLS listings on your favorite real estate website. Many of the lower-priced foreclosed homes are likely to be REOs.

Most banks have a certain real estate agent they use to list their real estate. If you can find out which agent handles a bank's listings, you can let him or her know that you are interested in bank owned properties so that he will contact you whenever there is a new listing.

Another way to find foreclosed homes that are owned by banks is by checking their websites. Banks often post lists of properties that are available. You can sometimes search by state or city, but depending on the bank you might have to wade through hundreds of listings to find what you are looking for.

Bank owned properties are more likely than other real estate to have been mistreated or neglected in the past, so make sure you have a professional inspection done before you purchase one of these foreclosure houses. Homeowners who know they are going to lose their home will sometimes damage the home or just stop taking care of it as well as they should. Banks can also be negligent about taking care of foreclosure houses they own.

Bank owned properties often sell for a discount, so you can end up getting a great deal on your next home by purchasing a bank owned property. These foreclosed homes are also a great way to get into the rental business, so if you have ever thought about investing in real estate, this is a great way to get started. - 29970
